1b. Middle/High School Physical Science Lab and/or Course for HS Credit — Hone
(Grades 8+)
Students will explore the amazing details of God’s creation in the physical world. Each week, students will engage in hands-on science experiments that correlate with the many topics covered in middle school physical science, including: atoms, molecular structure, the Periodic Table of Elements, the amazing properties of water, the physics of motion, Newton’s Laws, gravitational and electromagnetic forces, waves, sound, light, nuclear energy, and more . The best part is that this course (providing students complete weekly homework assignments) will count as a “high school science with lab” credit. Or students can participate in class, without completing homework, to get a high school lab credit—allowing them to complete the course work at another time. [For those desiring to complete the assignments and earn high school credit, it will be necessary to purchase Apologia’s Exploring Creation with Physical Science 2nd ed. published in 2007 from a used curriculum marketplace such as homeschool classifieds.]
TIMING:  Begins at 1:15 pm through first period (to allow enough time for completing experiments)
LENGTH:   FULL YEAR course (both semesters)
FEE:  TBD (depending on class size; probably about $30 or $15/semester)to cover experiment supplies and course materials

2. Let’s Talk — Deppe
(Grades 8-up)
This class is designed to remove the intimidation factor and provide fun opportunities for public speaking.  Some of the “talking” topics will include presenting Children’s Literature, Bible reading, humorous monologue, spoken-word poetry, how-to presentation, sales pitch, and interview skills.

3. Functional Fitness–Kise
Come join me for a fun activity class with a decent dose of interesting instruction as well. We will explore topics such as working toward individual fitness goals, cultivating habits, strength and mobility, lifestyle wellness, nutrition, brain health, joint and bone health, heart and lungs health, but most of all we will move, play, challenge ourselves and have fun! Students will keep a fitness journal. We may be outside on some weather-cooperative days, so dress accordingly and bring water. If a student chooses to do the at-home workout suggestions, this class can be counted for a 1/2 Health/PE credit.

2nd Period:

1. Box of Chocolates ART EDITION — Barr

The goal of Career Quest is to familiarize the students with some of the options available to them to pursue a career or start businesses. Students will hear about the various pathways they can take
such as college, trade school, or, even starting and running businesses.

3. Everyday Apologetics — Wright/Kise
Did you know that when you breathe, your body takes in a mash-up of several different gases and efficiently filters out the 21% of oxygen it needs for healthy body function while rapidly getting rid of the rest? You do this every moment without thinking! This class in everyday apologetics will train our minds and spirits to do the same thing — take in masses of information from media, consumer, educational, and other sources, filtering out the arguments set up against the knowledge of God, and utilizing the TRUTH for a healthy mind and spirit. We will look at current events and other cultural media in order to train our minds in how to recognize worldly philosophies and debunk them according to the Word of God. Join us as we discuss, role play, debate and settle Eternal Truths into our hearts and minds.
